One of the classes that I have this semester is an Introduction into Interior Design. For this class I have two main projects. The first is to design a Master Bedroom and Bath. The second is to design a Kitchen. I’m not really that great when it comes to Interior Design, I’ve always been better with clothes. My roomie, Brittany, loves Interior Design and has a real talent for it, so she was really excited when I told her about these projects.
So the basic requirements was to have a floorplan that had a minimum of 20 linear feet of closet space, a bedroom that had a 60″ turnaround space, and a barrier free bathroom with a 60″ turnaround space as well. As for how the floorplan was laid out that is where the creative juices are supposed to start flowing.
Once the floorplan was finished now you needed furniture. The required furniture included a bed, nightstand, dresser with mirror, and any other storage furniture that we desired.
Now we have furniture and a floorplan it’s time to decorate with paint, wallpaper, hardwood flooring, fabric for the bed, fabric for the window treatments, bathroom paint, bathroom cabinet paint, and bathroom flooring.
After everything is compiled together than we had to present it all together on a materials board in order to “sell” our ideas. Overall this was a really fun project, but had a bit of a technical side as well. A lot of precision to the floorplan and making sure everything was accurate. Honestly though I can’t wait to start working on the Kitchen project, although that has a lot more code and restrictions to keep in mind when designer the kitchen floorplan.
And here is the final project….
